About El Salvador Independence Day 2025
This Doodle celebrates Independence Day in El Salvador. On this day in 1821, the Act of Independence of Central America was signed, freeing several provinces from foreign rule. El Salvador and sister nations Guatemala, Costa Rica, Honduras, and Nicaragua then joined to form the Federal Republic of Central America.
On Independence Day, Salvadorans gather to enjoy an exciting day of festivities like family picnics, music performances, firework shows, and street parades. School children dress up in vibrant costumes and decorate banners to fly alongside the blue-and-white national flag, as seen in today’s artwork, during their choreographed marches. On almost every corner, street vendors can be found serving the national dish, pupusas (corn tortillas stuffed with hearty filling), to those celebrating.
