Sweden National Day 2025

This Doodle celebrates Sweden National Day, a public holiday that commemorates Sweden’s history, achievements, and progress. On this day in 1523, the people of Sweden elected Gustav Eriksson Vasa as the nation’s first king. June 6th was also the day when the Swedish Parliament adopted a new constitution in 1809. National Day became a public holiday in 2004 to honor both of these momentous occasions.

On National Day, Swedes attend lively events like street parades, horse races, musical concerts, and more. The most famous ceremony occurs at Skansen, an open-air museum located in Stockholm. Many dress up in blue-and-yellow outfits and wave the national flag high in the sky — just like in the artwork!
